The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach existing Criminal Justice courses and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in their areas of expertise.

Expertise in more than one area and interdisciplinary approaches are particularly welcome.

While candidates with a PhD are preferred, ABD candidates, candidates with professional degrees, LL.M., or another terminal degree in their field and candidates with lived experience are also encourage to apply.

UWinnipeg offers over 50 undergraduate and graduate programs across 6 Faculties and the Global College.

The Criminal Justice Department at the University of Winnipeg is a unit of twelve full-time faculty with varied disciplinary backgrounds who are committed to a broad and inclusive interdisciplinary approach to the study of criminal justice. We are interested in fostering both critical and applied scholarship. The Department serves approximately 600 majors, is active in research, and places a strong emphasis on teaching. We have a strong Honours program and a burgeoning MA program.

Candidates who are interested in applying to several areas should identify the areas to which they are applying in their letter and submit separate applications.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to Indigenous focused teaching as well as academic research in a relevant field and service to the University as per our Collective Agreement. We are committed to serving Indigenous communities and welcome candidates who can help foster meaningful relationships between the University of Winnipeg and Indigenous communities.

Interested candidates should apply with a cover letter outlining relevant experience in teaching and research; a curriculum vitae; a research and teaching statement outlining their contributions, or other evidence of effective teaching; and the names and contact information of three referees familiar with the candidate's Indigenous-specific teaching, research, and service.

Applicants are asked to clearly indicate in their cover letter the department(s) to which they are applying. Candidates with interdisciplinary research areas are encouraged to submit to each area of interest.

This cluster hire search is designated for Indigenous candidates.

Applicants should therefore provide a statement indicating their relationships to and with Indigenous nations, governments, and communities as well as how they self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit or Métis).

In the later stages of the selection process, additional steps supporting the verification of Indigenous identity will occur for individuals who are invited to an interview with the selection committee.

Applicants must submit the above materials through The University of Winnipeg’s online recruitment system at https://www.northstarats.com/University-of-Winnipeg. Review of applications will begin on February 15, 2024, and consideration of applications will continue until such time as the position is filled.

We appreciate all applicants’ interest, but only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.
