The Campus Sustainability Office (CSO) is responsible for managing programs, initiatives and day-to-day activities to improve UWinnipeg’s environmental performance and achieve strategic objectives related to social and environmental responsibility. The Sustainability Assistant is a part time (5-17.5 hours per week role) responsible for assisting and supporting ongoing campus sustainability efforts. 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain office filing system, track office spending, and triage and assist with managing the CSO email account.
  • Assist with online engagement by producing engaging content for the CSO newsletter, social media accounts, and website.
  • Book meeting rooms and help with event planning where applicable.
  • Attend meetings with the CSO team and keep meeting minutes.
  • Help organize initiatives and act as the CSO representative during various forms of campus outreach and engagement including tabling during orientation weeks; giving class talks; and connecting with student groups at meetings and events.
  • Help coordinate Sustainability Ambassadors and daily waste diversion initiatives.
  • Support the CSO with data analysis by maintaining data collection spreadsheets and filing systems for reporting indicators such as the waste database and STARS.
  • Assist with conducting campus-wide waste audits by helping to recruit and orient auditors; organize shifts; and log, analyze, and disseminate data.
  • Support the Green Office Program by drafting communications, conducting office walkthroughs, and delivering presentations.
  • Assist CSO staff in writing content and preparing graphs for various reporting requirements and carry out data collection for research projects.
  • Assist with other new or pre-existing initiatives that enhance sustainability at UWinnipeg.

Qualifications:

  • High School Education and enrolled in a bachelor’s program (preferably at UWinnipeg).
  • Two years position-relevant employment experience would be preferred.
  • Experience with office procedures, event planning, research, and communications preferred.
  • Experience with volunteering/organizing with environmental causes.
  • Passionate about social and environmental change work.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must be passionate, self-motivated and demonstrate the potential to work in a dynamic, exciting, fast-paced working environment.
  • Must have computer skills in MS Office and internal/email communication.
  • Must have proven quantitative reasoning abilities and facility manipulating spreadsheets.
  • Must have proven analytical ability.
  • Must have experience creating engaging content for social media and with utilizing various social media platforms.
  • Must be able to work effectively with a wide range of target audiences (students, faculty, staff, and community) and personalities.
  • Must be able to reason through problems, issues, and scenarios, to sound conclusions.
  • Must be capable of working with multiple simultaneous priorities.
  • Must be tactful and diplomatic.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

The salary range for this position will be from $18.45 to $26.28 hourly.
