The Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) includes two departments: Business and Administration, and Economics. It includes 37 faculty members and 8 staff, with approximately 15% of UWinnipeg students enrolled in its programs.
In addition to core academic duties, FBE supports a variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities aimed at fostering student engagement and community partnerships. These activities involve supporting student-run organizations, case competitions, employer recruitment visits, student workplace visits, work-integrated learning through co-op and career placements, workshops, conferences, and other learning opportunities outside of the classroom. All of these activities require communications support.
The Communications and Engagement Coordinator is a full-time continuing role responsible for managing communications and social media for the FBE, creating content, tracking marketing and communications data, and coordinating FBE events to increase student engagement, and market visibility.
Responsibilities:
- Designs strategic communications plans for FBE in collaboration with the Dean’s Office.
- Manages all communications for FBE by writing, editing, and distributing the student newsletter, event invitations and other promotional materials.
- Provides support to FBE programs to ensure brand consistency and accurate messaging, maintaining consistent tone across platforms and mediums.
- Receives, assesses and publishes external advertising enquiries.
- Gathers and analyses communications data, prepares and presents reports summarizing findings and making recommendations.
- Maintains and updates FBE contact lists of external partners and students.
- Creates videos for FBE for display on social media, departmental website and for promotion during internal and external events.
- Takes a leadership role in planning and publishing regular updates on all FBE social media accounts aiming to engage and expand the target audience.
- Manages and creates social media objectives to ensure ongoing student engagement.
- Writes press releases and stories to be shared across FBE platforms and with internal and external partners for broader distribution.
- Collaborates with the Dean, Manager of Special Projects, Community Relations/MiM Manager, and Co-operative Education Coordinator to develop, implement and oversee marketing plans and projects.
- Responsible for managing, editing and designing The Faculty of Business and Economics website as well as related pages.
- Creates strategic marketing plans and goals for the FBE programs, events, social media, newsletter and website.
- Tracks newsletter, social media and website performance against established marketing plans and goals and prepares monthly progress reports.
- Manages all digital marketing operations of FBE; including developing digital designs, producing innovative graphics, and engaging content.
- Responsible for designing print media advertisements.
- Develops infographics based on analytic reports, partners with FBE staff on quarterly review of digital advertising results, adjusting content to meet goals.
- Keeps an inventory list of all promotional products, manages product orders.
- Archives and maintains all previous marketing materials and yearly objectives.
- Keeps abreast of new marketing best practices developments and processes.
- Stays up to date on all technological trends and advances.
- Researches and creates marketing micro-credential certificate courses (8-12 weeks).
- Makes decisions on admitting students to micro-credential courses, ensuring they meet requirements.
- Manages the course including students and instructors to ensure flow, consistency and accuracy of the course.
- Captures student success in photos at live FBE events, conducts and manages photo shoots to support marketing and communication projects.
- Assumes primary responsibility for planning, communicating and organizing logistics, or acts as a departmental lead for FBE events.
- Coordinates FBE participation at University-wide events.
- Produces a post-event summary .
- Oversees coordination of information sessions, guest speakers, networking opportunities with external partners, Co-operative Education events, and student run events by communicating with partners.
- Represents FBE at trade shows and other external events.
- Ensures that student group events are executed properly.
- Receives evaluation reports from staff and faculty about events they coordinate.
- Prepares an event calendar and ensures adequate planning.
- Maintains a database of student volunteers for FBE and UW events.
- Attends and provides support at FBE events as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in marketing or communications, or an equivalent program of study is required.
- Experience working in a post-secondary environment would be an asset.
- 2 years of experience in a marketing coordination role with exposure to communications and content creation.
- Experience managing the digital communications of a business would be an asset
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to meet tight timelines is an asset.
- Experienced in organizing and coordinating events is an asset.
- Experience in creating Marketing Micro-credential Certificate Courses.
- Experience working with InDesign, Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Cascade, and Envoke.
- Excellent working knowledge of applicable web content management software, e.g. InDesign, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canvas etc.
- Excellent, demonstrated writing and grammar skills.
- Knowledge of website management in Cascade an asset.
- Strong understanding of branding, design, and communications best practices as they relate to marketing.
- Ability to take quality photographs and videos suitable for use with news stories, social media posts, websites etc.
- Proficiency in navigating all mainstream social media outlets.
- Ability to make sound decisions within the scope of departmental policies, institutional values and direction from the position’s supervisor.
- Understanding of the University’s purpose and structure as well as those of the FBE is preferred.
- Superior organization skills.
- Ability to work both independently and also cooperatively in a team-oriented environment.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Condition(s) of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must be able to work the occasional evening or weekend.
The salary range for this position will be from $52,579.80 to $74,729.20 annually.
