The course will run from September 15, 2014 - December 19, 2014. Classes will be held in the Annex Building, 471 Portage Ave, room to be determined. Class times will be 1:00 – 3:00 pm, two days per week.
This course is designed to improve low-intermediate level reading skills by developing strategies in scanning, skimming, predicting content and inferring meaning using a variety of texts. There is a strong emphasis on vocabulary acquisition.

Education and Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree
- TESL Certificate or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year teaching the following:
- vocabulary acquisition and reading strategies
- scanning, skimming, inference, finding main idea and recognition of types of paragraphs
- how to write reading journals
- Experience teaching English as an additional or foreign language to adults
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, and conflict-resolution skills to deal effectively with a wide variety of situations
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and issues of a diverse student body
- Varied teaching experience considered an asset (in terms of skill, level, demographic, and location)
- Strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with online tools and resources for teaching.
- Knowledge of a language additional to English considered an asset
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
