The Library’s mission is to sustainably develop, preserve and make accessible UWinnipeg’s knowledge and cultural resources in support of teaching and research. It is a core academic service that provides the spaces and services necessary for students, faculty, and community researchers to discover, create, access, and use these resources. 

The Circulation Assistant is a part-time (0-11 hours per week) sessional position responsible for providing the highest quality of public service at the Circulation Desk and assisting with the day-to-day operations of the library. 

Note: a sessional position is a continuing position which is subject to seasonal lay-off. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Checks out, checks in, and renews circulating resources (including Course Reserves material) for authorized patrons using the Integrated Library System (ILS) and associated support systems
  • Prepares and fulfills requests for library materials.
  • Creates and updates Library patron records in the ILS.
  • Responds to patron inquiries, referring more complex questions.
  • Assists Library users in the use of library tools, services, and equipment.
  • Provides basic maintenance for Library photocopiers and printers, referring complex problems.
  • Accepts payments (cash, debit, and credit) and issues receipts for fines, lost books, etc.
  • Responds to and resolves circulation issues, explains Library policies and refers complaints and broader administrative concerns to an appropriate supervisor.
  • Performs minor mending of materials, referring more complex repairs.
  • Carries out opening and/or closing procedures.
  • Performs shelving, shelf reading, and pick-ups of resources, including Course Reserves materials, as well as general stack maintenance and searches for missing materials.
  • Works on Library related projects.
  • Attends meetings. 

Qualifications: 

  • High School Completion or acceptable equivalent.
  • One year of directly related Library experience, using procedures and systems appropriate to the area.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and M365.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to apply automated and manual procedures.
  • Accurate keyboard skills and the ability to operate software packages currently in use. 

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.? 

Condition(s) of Employment: 

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends. 

The salary range for this position will be from $17.43 to $24.22 hourly.
