Position Summary

Diagnoses and completes repairs and/or services on heavy-duty trucks/buses and trailers to ensure customer satisfaction and profits for Maxim while working as a member of a team.


  1. Services units – Prepares customer/company vehicles, conducts repairs/service as directed by the Foreman, and notifies Foreman of any additional repairs needed.  May repair units by researching job, removing components, making adjustments, replacing or repairing parts, and reassembling unit. Updates Foreman regarding unforeseen problems or completion time changes so the customer can be notified.  Completes mechanical, electrical, air systems, or general repairs/service (e.g. transmissions, brakes, grease jobs, differential overhaul etc.) May provide guidance to apprentice mechanics during repairs. (70%)
  2. Tests and inspects repairs - Conducts road test to ensure quality work that meets government standards (i.e. safeties) and may complete “Quick-Check” to determine need for other possibly unrelated repairs. (10%)
  3. Diagnostics - Determines heavy-duty truck/bus and trailer problems by visually inspecting, listening to truck and customer, road testing or using various diagnostic tools to determine repairs needed.  Answers inquiries, identifies potential future problems, recommends repair or replacement of parts, and reports findings to Service Counter. (10%)
  4. Work orders - Records serial numbers and writes repair “story” on work order to document parts used, repairs completed, and problems or unusual situations encountered during repairs. (5%)
  5. Safety - maintains Company tooling and equipment as well as general shop housekeeping to promote a safe work environment. (5%)
  6. Other duties as assigned


Education & Experience:

  • Level 3 Apprentice to Journeyman designation or equivalent experience in both transport truck and trailer
  • Interest in continually upgrading skills and knowledge in trade
  • Safety Inspections Certificate and asset and may become required
  • Valid Class One with Air Driver’s License an asset (for road testing)

  • Own transportation to/from work is required as no bus service available.
  • Shifts vary from, Evening, Weekends and the night shift.
