Job purpose

We are looking for someone to work on our new small business accounts along with Market Segmentation accounts.  A strong orientation towards customer service is a must!  This position allows individuals with little or no underwriting experience the opportunity to gain the knowledge required to independently underwrite quotes, new business, renewals, and adjustments.

 

 

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Progressively assists in handling renewals until such time that they can handle these independently within delegated authority, and submits referrals to Commercial Risk or Senior Risk Analyst, as required.  
  • Accurately evaluates files and orders additional appropriate report information.
  • Interprets report information and acts upon information in a timely manner appropriate to company guidelines and authority limits.
  • Requests additional information from Risk Service Coordinator, Loss Prevention Consultant as deemed necessary to complete an appropriate evaluation of the file.          
  • Uses experience to effect pro-active changes in account loss status or potential loss status.
  • Uses experience of peers and Manager appropriately.
  • Creatively handles decision making, problem solving and risk management on a pro-active basis using clear and precise thought processes.
  • Monitors and analyzes profitability of segmented book of accounts.
  • Makes sound-underwriting decisions based on established criteria.
  • Completes service work in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Completes Large Loss Reviews as required and/or as directed by Manager.
  • Communicates with Loss Prevention Consultants, Risk Service Coordinators and Policyholders in a professional manner.
  • Handles reinsurance lines appropriately.

 

 

Qualifications

  • University degree or Community College diploma or equivalency.
  • Completion of or actively working towards C.I.P. or C.R.M. designation (Min. 5 courses completed).
  • Basic knowledge of personal computers (MS Word, MS Excel, E-mail, etc.).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong decision making capabilities.  Ability to function efficiently and produce in a changing environment.
  • Ability to travel.
