Supervisor in charge of maintenance shift, Monday through Friday with overtime on weekends. The successful candidate will take charge and responsibility to supervise rotating shift crews that perform preventative maintenance and maintain the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for planning, supervising, co-coordinating, scheduling and assigning all work requirements associated with breakdown, preventative maintenance, predictive techniques, project and day to day work orders while ensuring compliance with all internal and external regulations in the facility. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager/Director of Facilities.

  • Work within the department’s annual budgets while ensuring cost effectiveness of the maintenance department.
  • Conduct monthly safety talks. Maintains a safe and clean work environment by ensuring that the Plant is in accordance with all codes and regulations. Ensures that all work performed complies with governing practices and legislation. Maintains accurate records of safe management, operations and maintenance through compliance with company policies, procedures and property loss control programs.
  • Provide direction, motivation and technical support to skilled and semi-skilled staff for the purpose of maintaining the plant, equipment and service functions.
  • Schedule employees and verify/authorize time for payroll purposes.
  • Provide immediate customer service/response to operational concerns to ensure minimal disruptions in production.
  • Ensuring plant wide participation in maintenance programs by overseeing and/or developing program guidelines. Review changes of new and/or improved equipment to update programs.
  • Interact with manufacturers and vendors for equipment quotes, maintenance, warranty, contracts, modification, and improvements. 
  • Helps develop, track and achieve maintenance KPIs.


Education and experience:

This supervisor must hold in good standing in the province of Manitoba (or red seal interprovincial) a journeyman’s license. Preference will be given to candidates that hold an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) or Electrician’s license. Other trades or persons with mechanical/electrical degree or certification will be considered.

  • 3 – 5 years experience in a supervisory role with strong leadership skills in a skilled trade’s environment, working with large crews
  • Experience in a food or hog processing environment would be an asset
  • Experience in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrates commitment to governing rules and regulations as they relate to health & safety and food safety
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of the organization
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and CFIA/HAACP programs.
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and Kaizens would be an asset
  • Ability to prioritize Health & Safety work orders, Food Safety work orders and production priorities so as to be aligned with the business goals.
  • Coach maintenance team through work ethic, mentoring and apprenticeship training.
  • Experienced in coordinating Outside Contractors working in the facility and ensures their compliance to security, safety, GMP and labour regulations.
