The Requirement:

SED Systems is currently seeking candidates for the position of Director, Finance & Administration to join the team in Saskatoon, SK.

The Position:

Reporting to the President, the Director, Finance & Administration is a member of SED’s executive management team who establish policies and strategic direction for the division and who are responsible for the day-to-day operation of the division on an autonomous basis.  Staff responsibilities include managers from various functional groups within the F&A department. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership and oversight to seasoned department managers encompassing the areas of accounting, human resources, information systems, administrative and project management support, and facilities;
  • Managing taxation, audits, insurance reviews, and government rate negotiations at a divisional level and providing support to Calian’s CFO in related activities;
  • Preparing monthly and annual financial statements for the division;
  • Directing the accumulation, summarization, and analysis of financial inputs for the division’s annual business plan;
  • Maintaining the division’s foreign exchange hedging program; and,
  • Reviewing contract terms and conditions for proposed projects and providing negotiation advice to divisional business unit managers.

The Person:

This position will be of interest to candidates with the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in industry or public practice with highly developed business acumen;
  • Preference given to candidates with a professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA) and a post-secondary degree in business with a specialization in accounting or equivalent;
  • A strong-willed team player with exceptional planning, organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Comfortable driving change through the organization;
  • A dynamic and communicative leader with the ability to motivate and lead a team;
  • Ability to provide the President with support and strategic direction on all financial matters;
  • A strong negotiator with the ability to work with program leaders to formalize contract terms and conditions;
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles;
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial financial regulations;
  • Ability to use and enhance budgeting and forecasting models; and,
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.


The ability to obtain a security clearance and meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Program is mandatory.
