Description:

Under the direction of an Engineering Manager; is responsible for working within cross functional project teams on new product development and in making improvements to existing products or manufacturing processes.  Heavy focus on providing leadership and expertise in manufacturing processes, specifically joining technologies, forming, and adhesives.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Participate with Project Engineers and Sales during the concept development phase.  May require some travel, up to 10% annually.
  • Responsible for defining and executing design of experiments to refine processes.  
  • Specify and startup new tooling and/or equipment.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure product robustness.
  • Heavy participation in concept & final design reviews with internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for developing test plans, working hands-on with the test technicians, and writing & reviewing final test reports with cross functional teams.
  • Responsible for prototype and pilot builds, which will include extensive collaboration with purchasing & planning, quality, manufacturing engineering and production personnel.  Should also be capable of operating machine shop and inspection equipment.
  • Work closely with quality and manufacturing engineering during production releases and startups of the production builds.
  • Reports out on project status to management on a weekly basis, including risk assessment / mitigations and development progress.
  • Keeps informed as to customer markets as they affect PTI’s product portfolio.
  • Provides technical assistance, with respect to product application, to internal and external marketing representatives and customers.
  • Leads project documentation in compliance with PTI’s quality system implementation.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

REQUIRED:

Education:  Bachelors of Science in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Materials Engineering from an accredited university with a heavy emphasis in manufacturing and materials.          

Experience: 

  • 5-year + experience in manufacturing process development with a high volume manufacturing company.  Master of Science degree with 3-yr + of manufacturing process development in a high volume manufacturing company.  Familiarity with metal stamping, adhesives, plastics, and castings.                                                
  • 3-year + of independently executing development projects of medium to high complexity.

DESIRED:

Education:      Masters of Science degree from an accredited university.                                          

Experience:    Justify and implement high value capital equipment
