Description:

Under the direction of an Engineering Manager; is responsible for the development of new products and modifications/improvements to existing products.  Provides leadership to cross-functional teams in launching new products, with a focus on problem solving and design for manufacturability.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Works closely with Sales and the customer to understand and define requirements.
  • Responsible for concept development including rapid prototyping, engineering analysis, cost analysis and cross functional approvals.  
  • Responsible for leading concept and final design reviews with internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for developing project plans appropriately scaled to the size of the project.
  • Responsible for developing test plans, working hands-on with the test technicians, and writing & reviewing final test report with cross functional teams.
  • Responsible for prototype and pilot builds, which will include extensive collaboration with purchasing & planning, quality, manufacturing engineering and production personnel.
  • Reports out on project status to management on a weekly basis, including risk assessment / mitigations and development progress.
  • Involved in maintaining and advancing relationships with customers.  Travels to customer, as needed, for design support.  Annual travel 10% to 15%.
  • Keeps informed as to developments in competitive product offerings, and in material/manufacturing advancements as they apply to the company.
  • Keeps informed as to customer markets as they affect PTI’s product portfolio.
  • Provides technical assistance, with respect to product application, to internal and external marketing representatives and customers.
  • Leads project documentation in compliance with PTI’s quality system implementation.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

REQUIRED:

Education:     BS Mechanical Engineering with a heavy emphasis in design for manufacturability and materials.

                                   

Experience:  

  • 3-year + experience in mechanical design and analysis with a high volume manufacturing company.  Familiarity with metal stamping / forming, plastics, and/or electro-mechanical design. 
  • MSME with 1-yr + of mechanical design in a high volume manufacturing company.
  • 1-year + of independently executing development projects of medium to high complexity.

Experience:     Experience with running simulation software for heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
