Visual Communications & New Media Designer

To begin as soon as possible

Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours/week)

Location: 14 Fultz and/or working remotely maybe required

Reporting to the Creative Director, the Visual Communications and New Media Designer (VCNWD) will execute digital, print and communications creative solutions that address the College’s marketing needs. Working in collaboration with the marketing team, as part of the External Relations department, the VCNMD will assist in maintaining a visual design system that presents a coherent look and feel across platforms (web, new media and print) and developing content for these platforms. A keen understanding of the target audiences is essential, with in-depth knowledge of graphic design, strong communication skills, experience with social media platforms (including photo and video editing) and best practices, and acute attention to detail.The VCNMD will have an in-depth understanding of imagery, composition and design, as well a strong ability to communicate and collaborate. This position will also participate in the planning and executing of MITT’s new media strategy. The VCNMD can be described as self-motivated, creative, proactive and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with in-house marketing team and internal clients (departments) in the development of creative briefs
  • Ensure integrity of all creative is maintained according to brand guidelines and standards
  • Assist in clearly defining production requirements for each project
  • Communicate, follow up, and build relationships with internal clients (departments)
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, departments and vendor/supplier partners, as required
  • Assist, as necessary, at key institutional events (i.e. Convocation ceremonies, MITT’s Open House, all-staff events, etc.)

Graphic Design

  • Infographic design – maps, flowcharts, organization charts – using a mixture of tools in the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Promotional item design – applying MITT branding to a range of promotional items such as T-shirts, water bottles, and notebooks
  • Create web graphics, email newsletters, interactive PDFs, presentations, and social media assets using tools including the Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp, and Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Participate in storyboarding sessions and lead photo/video shoots

Social Media

  • Assist with designing, developing, planning, and maintaining MITT’s presence on social media
  • Assist with event or other targeted social media campaigns
  • Assist or lead creation of engaging text, image, and video content to increase awareness, support recruitment, and celebrate MITT’s partnerships
  • Use platform-based analytics to monitor dashboards, identify trends and report on insights
  • Assist with development and management of annual new media editorial calendar
  • Stay current in all social platforms by learning new tools and new software as-required and staying up-to-date on industry trends

 

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certificate Diploma or Degree in Graphic Design or Communications Design, or a combination of relevant education and experience
  • Minimum five years of directly related graphic design and social media experience preferably in an ad agency or relatable field
  • Advanced skills using the Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience in multiple new media platforms and knowledge of social media management platforms (i.e. Sprout Social)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer relations
  • Expert knowledge and hands-on experience in graphic design, typography and colour theory
  • Strong understanding of branding, positioning, and marketing
  • Knowledge of both print and digital processes, techniques and technologies
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
  • Knowledge of photography and video-editing skills for basic social media and web application
  • Strategic thinker, comfortable ideating high-level concepts as well as developing detailed design executions
  • Excellent listener, communicator, and collaborator within the creative group
  • Ability to maintain positivity and adapt to changing situations under pressure
  • Ability to multitask
  • Demonstrated ability in coordinating concurrent projects and juggling multiple priorities
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading experience considered an asset
