HyLife Ltd. is a progressive Manitoba based company. HyLife and its affiliates have feed and pork operations and genetics and meat sales in various countries around the world. This position is based at the Head Office in the vibrant community of LaBroquerie, Manitoba. We are currently seeking a highly motivated person to fill the position of Swine R&D and Feed Formulator.  This position directly reports to the Director of Nutrition and R & D.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and carrying out applied research program for the company
  • Coordination, organization and follow-up of R&D project for the company
  • Implementing swine program and formulation for company feed mill
  • Trial protocol writing
  • Implementing R&D protocol
  • Planning of the research project
  • Follow-up of research project
  • Research sample analysis and data summary
  • Data entry
  • Carcass evaluation and meat quality assessment
  • Collaboration for follow-up and organization of SR&ED program
  • Participation in R&D meeting
  • Statistical analysis for trial data (R&D)
  • Trial report writing
  • Assistance of animal trials at the barns and the feed mill
  • Least cost/reformulation at the feed mill
  • Nutrition program implementation
  • Feed ingredients quality control
  • Training in nutrition for company staff and/or new staff in the Nutrition department
  • Assist in developing nutrient specifications to formulate rations to maximize growth, reproduction, health, welfare and performance while maintaining a strong emphasis on optimizing costs
  • Regular interaction with the company feed mill and external feed mill that toll mill feed for the company
  • Run feed cost analysis reports on a regular basis.  Review key performance indicators
  • Key member of HyLife HACCP team whose members are committed to producing safe, top quality pork. Duties include developing, revising and auditing manufacturing and quality control procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

We are seeking an individual who:

  • Possess a post-secondary degree in Animal Nutrition or Animal Science, or related discipline
  • Be an existing member, or be eligible to gain membership, in a provincial Institute of Agrology
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management, organization and problem-solving skills.  Require high attention to detail
  • Be open-minded and adaptable
  • Previous experience with Brill or other formulation software considered an asset, but not required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software and related programs (Excel, Word)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software and related programs (Excel, Word)
