The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, Capital Campaign/Resource Development, this role requires an exceptional writer and strategic thinker who is capable of leading all aspects of the communication strategy for APC’s Resource Development department. This position oversees two major portfolios:

Donor Stewardship: Acknowledge, recognize and steward donors in order to strengthen their relationship with APC.

Fundraising Marketing: Develop communications in support of strategic fundraising initiatives.

What you will do:

  • Lead all development writing, including meaningful thank you letters, reports, articles, proposals, speaking notes, direct marketing appeals, and more
  • Write fundraising appeals and impact reports that inspire donors to give
  • Share the impact of giving to APC through a variety of channels
  • Oversee a comprehensive recognition program for donors at all levels
  • Manage a regular slate of donor cultivation and stewardship events
  • Advise colleagues on communications messaging to donors and prospective donors
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the expense budget for donor relations activities

What you need to have:

  • Completed post-secondary education in a related field (Communications, journalism, fundraising etc.)
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a communications related position
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel Outlook, PowerPoint) 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Additional criteria considered an asset:

  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Related experience in a fundraising or resource development environment 
  • Experience working within Raiser’s Edge (database development program) 
  • Prior experience working in a non-profit environment

What you need to demonstrate to be successful in this role:

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to write, edit, format and proofread documents with extreme accuracy
  • Proven research skills with the ability to take an idea from conception to inception
  • Proven track record of strategic marketing communications, planning and implementation
  • Solid understanding of print and digital communications platforms and the ability to leverage them in an integrated way to meet identified goals and objectives
  • Strong organizational skills to consistently plan, manage resources and achieve assigned goals and projects within a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Ability to self-manage and take initiative on projects
  • Broad understanding of fundraising principles as well as strong understanding of donor reporting
