Job Purpose:

 

The Milling Supervisor is responsible for the overall operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the milling equipment, and the quality of the product produced. This position will communicate with various departments on a daily basis to assist in determining daily tasks and providing that information to the milling staff for each shift. Other tasks include creating shift schedules, and continuous improvement to meet production targets. This role is responsible to complete daily assessments of the milling performance, guiding the milling team to achieve the quality and yield required through the proper equipment settings.

 

Expectations:

 

  1. Responsible to provide effective leadership and guidance to the Milling Shift Leads, driving maximum productivity, quality requirements, and efficiencies;
  2. Responsible for overseeing the operation, continuous improvement, and optimization of milling activities;
  3. Responsible for implementing and achieving the milling schedule to optimize operations and achieve targets;
  4. Responsible to manage day-to-day operations and optimization of milling activities;
  5. Responsible for the continuous operations of the milling operations, ensuring the product quality is met, and equipment, resources, and personnel are optimized;
  6. Responsible for achieving milling targets including yield rates, and accuracy of inventory levels across the SCADA and ERP systems;
  7. Responsible for holding the Milling Shift Leads accountable for their specific targets, reporting, and teams;
  8. Responsible to work with the Production Manager to develop and implement training programs and materials to ensure staff are adequately training for their respective positions;
  9. Responsible for suggesting and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiencies, promote lean practices, and identify cost-saving opportunities;
  10. Responsible for leading regular team meetings to discuss suggestions, conduct safety talks, and propose improvements;
  11. Responsible for cultivating and sustaining a positive workplace culture by ensuring respectful treatment of all employees, addressing complaints promptly, and fostering open communication with employees in alignment with company’s policies and procedures;
  12. Responsible to complete Human Resource duties and tasks;
  13. Responsible for collaborating with other leaders to develop preventative and autonomous maintenance programs to minimize milling downtime;
  14. Responsible to comply and lead the production team regarding all Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Human Resource policies and procedures;
  15. Other duties as assigned by the Production Manager.
  16. Being our in-house oat mill and pellet mill expert, ensure equipment settings and operations as a whole are optimized to ensure we maintain high quality, quantity, and minimize downtime;
  17. Prepare a daily production report and equipment performance evaluations;
  18. Manage all oat mill and pellet mill activities and provide support to the other departments as necessary;
  19. Monitor, control and focus on improving efficiencies in the mills through monitoring equipment efficiencies and troubleshooting, as well as communicating with the Production Shift Leads and working together with the milling team;
  20. Work together with the other departments to minimize downtime and understand the various product needs;
  21. Complete daily inspections of the oat mill and pellet mill activities, resolving any issues efficiently and effectively;
  22. Work together with the Maintenance Supervisor to develop and maintain the preventive and autonomous maintenance programs for the mills;
  23. Coach, lead and train the milling staff to ensure they have the tools and knowledge to operate the equipment optimally;
  24. Create milling shift instructions and manage shift schedules;
  25. Responsible to develop and execute milling training programs;
  26. Identify repair requirements and actively assist the maintenance department in repairs;
  27. Responsible the equipment within the pelletizing, cleaning, milling, Revtech and flour production areas ensuring they are programmed and operated optimally;

 

Authority and Approval Levels:

 

  1. Provide direction, leadership and coaching to the production department staff;
  2. Complete annual performance evaluations for the production departments staff;

 

Goals & Objectives:

 

  1. Continuously operate the milling equipment at its rate capacity for 95% of the scheduled time;
  2. Ensure produced product is within spec 85% of the time;
  3. Maintain operational downtime below 3%;
  4. Maintain a perfect attendance and punctuality record;
  5. Minimize the milling departments waste;
  6. Meet departmental site standards goals of 90%;
  7. Meet goals of 100% of completing entries within Agriflo and the BCM app for all production areas;
