We are currently seeking a Category Manager for the North West Company located at 77 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB.

JOB SUMMARY

Dual responsibility for the direction, planning and procurement of the home furnishing category assortment for The North West Company, while fulfilling the Category Business Manager role for the North West Company. Because of the unique characteristics of the role, the Director of Wholesale position is resident in the North West Company home office. Leveraging the Dufresne merchandise assortment, the Director of Wholesale will develop a solid assortment offering and marketing platform for the North West Company, while providing retail direction to the store network. Using sales data, customer research, market data and industry information, builds fact based, customer driven category marketing plans to optimize financial performance.

 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determine and authorize category assortment, pricing and quantification for ongoing store programs, truckload sales and contract sales.
  • Working in close conjunction with the Dufresne purchasing team, leverage the Dufresne core product assortment in the development of the North West product line-up.
  • Develop strong working relationships with applicable DFA functional areas (purchasing / distribution / accounting / is).
  • Gather and analyse consumer, market, and industry information to formulate strategies and tactics within the context of the overall marketing strategy.
  • Determine and manage the financial performance goals related to sales, pre-shrink, gross margin rate, controllable activity costs, and inventory productivity.
  • Alignment of Dufresne and North West Company financial budgets.
  • Work with Store Managers, to ensure category planning and marketing programs are executed and are operating effectively.
  • Provide a strategic perspective on the presentation and merchandising of category assortment.
  • Maintain store relations and strong alliance with NWC personnel.
  • Provide guidance and direction to the Service Centre team in support of NWC requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, and/or recognized purchasing designation or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
  • Minimum 5-7 years related merchandise/marketing experience
  • Previous buying and retail merchandising experience required
  • Strong business acumen
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of MS Office products in particular spreadsheets
  • Demonstrates the company’s Core and Leadership competencies

  • Ability to travel as required to remote and non-remote Northern locations
