Description:

Position Summary

Works independently to deliver effective on-the-road maintenance and repair services on heavy-duty truck and trailers.  This includes identifying potential future problems, recommending repair or replacement parts, updating Service Manager on completion time changes, completing detailed repair orders, and maintaining a safe & clean mobile unit. 

Responsibilities

  1. Completes service and repair tasks ranging from the basic to complex, including but not limited to: (70%)
  • Hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting
  • Replacing electrical, hydraulic, A/C components
  • Identifying differences between warranty, maintenance, or damage work
  • Performing diagnostics and structural repairs on critical components

Performance Coaching Standards

  • Quality work is completed according to shop productivity standards
  • All components removed and replaced without damage before unit leaves
  • Technician productivity meets or exceeds 90% billed vs. productive time
  • Continually learns and fine-tuning knowledge of the trade and applies to the job
  • Accuracy of diagnoses (e.g. problem cured as result of repair based on diagnosis)
  • Accuracy and completeness of information relayed
  • Makes recommendations to the customer on additional repairs or replacements needed
  • No units returned for the same problem due to workmanship or incorrect diagnosis
  • Good customer feedback on success of repair
  • Repeat business
  1. Analyzes customer needs and determines the scope of work needed:  (10%)
  • In advance of maintenance trip, arranges to take parts, tools, and other materials required to complete the job
  • At job site, organizes the job sequence; arranges with the customer and our shop for any major repairs that may be found during an inspection or maintenance job in order to minimize waiting, idle time and inefficiencies

Performance Coaching Standards

  • Communicates effectively with Supervisor and the customer
  • Brings correct type and amount of parts required for maintenance or repair
  • Minimal wait times
  1. Tests and inspects repairs (e.g. road test) to ensure quality work that meets government standards (e.g. safeties) and may complete “Quick-Check” to determine need for other possibly unrelated repairs.  Records manual timesheets, serial numbers, and writes repair “story” on work order to document repairs completed and problems or unusual situations encountered during repairs.  (10%)

Performance Coaching Standards

  • Complete and accurate information recorded on work order  e.g. serial numbers
  • Completeness of story results in being paid for all hours spent on job
  • Critical part failures are noticed during inspection
  • No units returned for the same problem due to workmanship
  • Good customer feedback on success of repair
  • Repeat business
  1. Maintains company tooling and equipment (including a pre and post trip inspection) as well as general housekeeping on work site & unit to promote a safe and clean environment. (10%)

Performance Coaching Standards

  • Pre and post-trip inspection completed twice a day on truck & equipment
  • Correct inventory used, recorded, and tracked
  • No preventable workplace accidents take place
  • Work equipment is used properly. Broken equipment is reported immediately to Supervisor.
  • Informs Supervisor of unit # and KM’s when arrived at pre-scheduled location
  • Positive feedback from customers and co-workers
  • Accurate information is provided when required
  • Customer satisfied with work site
  1. Other duties as assigned e.g. may work in shop as time permits

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and experience:

  • Level 3 Apprentice to Journeyman designation or equivalent experience to ensure background in the diagnosis, service and repair of heavy equipment (i.e. Medium and Heavy Duty trucks, power tailgates, refrigeration units, trailers, etc.)
  • Experience with front-line customer service
  • Alberta Safety Inspection Certificate an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License; Class 1 or 3 with Air would be an asset.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding duties
  • Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision
  • Shows determination, ingenuity, and tenacity

Other:

  • Full outdoor gear and tooling is supplied by company
  • Own steel toed boots are required
  • Own transportation to Maxim shop as no bus service available
  • Hours are: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, possible night shift (depending on workload), including a rotational weekly 24 hour on call shift.
