Description:

Position Summary

Diagnoses and completes repairs and/or services on heavy-duty trucks/buses and transportation equipment to ensure customer satisfaction and profits for Maxim while working as a member of a team.

Responsibilities

  1. Services units – Prepares customer/company vehicles, conducts repairs/service as directed by the Foreman, and notifies Foreman of any additional repairs needed.  May repair units by researching job, removing components, making adjustments, replacing or repairing parts, and reassembling unit. Updates Foreman regarding unforeseen problems or completion time changes so the customer can be notified.  Completes mechanical, electrical, air systems, or general repairs/service (eg. transmissions, brakes, grease jobs, differential overhaul etc.) May provide guidance to apprentice mechanics during repairs.   • Quality work is completed according to shop productivity standards
  • No units returned for the same problem due to workmanship
  • All components removed and replaced without damage before unit leaves
  • Technician notifying Foreman as soon as finding problem in order for the customer to know as soon as possible
  • Positive customer feedback on success of repair and repeat business
  • Continuously learns and fine-tuning knowledge of the trade and applies to the job
  1. Tests and inspects repairs - Conducts road test to ensure quality work that meets government standards (i.e. safeties) and may complete “Quick-Check” to determine need for other possibly unrelated repairs. (13%)

  • Critical part failures are noticed during inspection
  • No units returned for the same problem due to workmanship
  • Repeat business
  1. Diagnostics - Determines heavy-duty truck/bus problems by visually inspecting, listening to truck and customer, road testing or using various diagnostic tools to determine repairs needed.  Answers inquiries, identifies potential future problems, recommends repair or replacement of parts, and reports findings to Service Counter. (7%)

  • Accuracy of diagnoses (e.g. problem cured as result of repair based on diagnosis)
  • No units returned for the same problem due to improper diagnosis
  • Quality work is completed according to shop productivity standards
  • Technician notifying Foreman as soon as finding problem in order for the customer to know as soon as possible
  • Continually learns and fine-tuning knowledge of the trade and applies to the job
  1. Work orders - Records serial numbers and writes repair “story” on work order to document parts used, repairs completed, and problems or unusual situations encountered during repairs. (6%)

Performance Coaching Standards

  • Complete, accurate, and legible information recorded on work order i.e. serial numbers
  • Completeness of story results in being paid for all hours spent on job
  1. Safety - maintains Company tooling and equipment as well as general shop housekeeping to promote a safe work environment. (5%)

  • No preventable workplace accidents take place
  • Work equipment is used properly
  • Broken equipment is reported immediately to Foreman or Service Manager
  1. Other duties as assigned such as providing internal customer service including the promotion of other Maxim services when appropriate.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Level 3 Apprentice to Journeyman designation or equivalent experience
  • Interest in continually upgrading skills and knowledge in trade
  • Valid Class One with Air Driver’s License an asset (for road testing)

Skills:

  • Positive attitude and team player
  • Strong commitment to the customer
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to learn in house programs
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding duties
  • Familiar with tools of the trade and personally equipped with an adequate supply of hand tools
