JOB SUMMARY:

Directs and coordinates activities of the Maintenance department by performing the following duties personally and/or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews work orders or schedules to ascertain production scheduling in order to plan department operations and scheduled repair downtimes.
  • Develops and updates critical equipment list and ensures that the condition monitoring is conducted in order to guarantee reliability.
  • Ensures required preventative maintenance is done for all departmental equipment and provides dependable services at all times to meet the production needs, at an optimal cost.
  • Prioritizes the Health & Safety work orders, Food Safety work orders and production priorities so as to be aligned with the business goals.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.  Moves department from reactive to proactive maintenance.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Coordinates 3rd party inspections and subsequent recommended repairs as to be in compliance with all legislative requirements.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices.
  • Develop the continuous improvement spirit through the support of Lean principles and Kaizen events.
  • Develops, approves, recommends, and administers the R&M projects and budgets at the location level.
  • Ensures that all utilities are provided to operations in the quantity and quality required to perform their duties.
  • Develops long term planning for plant infrastructure, equipment upkeep and upgrades.
  • Develops, plans, and administers departmental budget.
  • Customer service oriented in dealing with other departments to help realize overall HyLife objectives.
  • Vigilant in conducting maintenance duties in accordance with all pertinent CFIA/HACCP regulations.
  • Develops, tracks and achieves plant and departmental KPIs.
  • Coordinates Outside Contractors working in facility and ensures their compliance to security, safety, GMP and labour regulations.
  • Develops supervisory team through coaching, mentoring and successor training.
  • Ensures all factory work and construction is completed within applicable governing codes, labour laws and follows generally accepted engineering practices.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Maintenance Manager supervises the supervisors and associate employees in the Boiler, Refrigeration, Electrical, Mechanical, Maintenance, Maintenance Inventory, and Utilities.  He is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these teams.

Manager will carry out all aspects of supervisory responsibilities in accordance with HyLife’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Conduct performance appraisals on subordinates, and develop career paths for same.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, plus minimum five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Power Engineer 1st class or 2nd class certification would be an asset.
