ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for the provision of detailed electrical design and technical support for capital and Operations & Maintenance projects from the conceptual stage through to commissioning. The incumbent is also be responsible for monitoring the technical quality of Engineers-In-Training and mentors their development.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Manages time efficiently to withstand stress due to high volume of work and conflicting priorities
  • Prepares tender specifications, tender documents, drawings and cost estimates for in-house projects
  • Manages tenders for capitals from preparation of RFP’s to recommending and/or selecting successful bids
  • Supervises the technical quality of the work of EIT’s
  • Liaise with consulting engineers and contractors in planning construction projects
  • Perform on-site inspections during construction projects
  • Participates in the development of corporate technical standards, procedures and policies
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of electrical engineering with respect to generating plant and equipment, construction methods, materials, contract law and engineering and safety codes

 

Required Qualifications include:

  • Electrical engineering degree with minimum 5 years related work experience
  • Eligible for membership with NAPEGG to practice as a Professional Engineer in Nunavut
  • Knowledge of all technical principals and practices relating to diesel generation planning, design and installation
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Above average interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills  
  • Ability to work as a team member and adapt to changing tasks
  • Adaptability and ability to work cross-culturally

 

Desirable Skills and Experience include:

  • Experience working in remote/isolated northern/aboriginal communities
  • Ability to speak and write in Inuktitut

 

Preference will be given to beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement

 

We offer a comprehensive salary & benefits package including location allowance of $15,016.00 per annum and relocation assistance.  This position is included in the Nunavut Employees Union.
